Valentine
My heart has made its mind upAnd I'm afraid it's you.Whatever you've got lined upMy heart has made its mind upAnd if you can't be signed upThis year, next year will do.My heart has made its mind upAnd I'm afraid it's you.
-Wendy Cope
'Tis the season! I don't quite yet know where the elements in that picture are leading me, but somewhere, I guess...
The form of the poem is a triolet. I had more to say about that here.
Happy (upcoming) Valentine's Day to all. (And one Other Reader in particular!)
I can't decide if it's cute, or a bit stalkerish. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is a little borderline, isn't it?
DeleteThere's something I like about Wendy Cope poems...the simplicity, I think.
ReplyDeleteAnd also that she's so frequently funny.
DeleteYes, that, too.
DeleteNice little poem. :)
ReplyDeleteI like her stuff. She's a lot of fun.
DeleteI like her too: whip-smart. Hmm, that seems like a problematic way to describe it, especially given this poem's odd tone. Heh
ReplyDeleteYea, as Lark noted above, perhaps the tone is just a little (deliberately) dodgy?
