Classics Club Spin #28

It's time for another Classics Club Spin...you know the rules. Here's my list of twenty books:

Some books that would also work for Karen's Back To The Classics challenge...

1.) George Bernard Shaw's Major Barbara
2.) James Baldwin's Giovanni's Room
3.) James Baldwin's Notes of a Native Son
4.) Sir Walter Scott's Count Robert of Paris
5.) Henry James' Wings of the Dove

Some books from my Classics Club list...

6.) Goethe's Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship
7.) Virginia Woolf's The Waves
8.) Willa Cather's One of Ours
9.) Willa Cather's A Lost Lady
10.) Samuel Butler's The Way of All Flesh

Some books I've been meaning to read since I recently read other books... 😉

11.) W.E.B. Du Bois' Autobiography (Wagnerism)
12.) Willa Cather's The Song of the Lark
13.) Eça de Queirós' The Maias (The City and the Mountains)
14.) R. L. Stevenson's An Inland Voyage (Travels With a Donkey)
15.) R. L. Stevenson's Across the Plains
16.) John Ruskin's Stones of Venice (various Richard Howards)
17.) John Ruskin's Unto This Last
18.) Tacitus' The History (Annals)
19.) Henryk Sienkiewicz' With Fire and Sword (Quo Vadis)
20.) Ezra Pound's Literary Essays (Propertius)

Some of these would be rereads. Which would you wish for me?

  1. I love reading your lists. They always have books on them that I can add to my TBR list.

I do hope you get Tacitus. Cather is so tempting though. And I still have to dig up my copy of The Maias. Can't wait to see what you get!

    1. Cather never gets chosen!

Tacitus would be pretty good. And I plan on reading the Maias soon anyway.

    1. That's the way I usually feel about other people's spin lists: I want them to get something I don't really know but am curious about.

I suspect I'd be impressed by The Waves, too. I should read it one of these days anyway.

  3. Hmm, I don't know many here! Lots of authors I have read, but not these books.

  4. I'm curious to see what comes up! Does Charles ever object to the D&D paraphernalia? :)

    1. So far he hasn't complained! And he usually sits there and watches over all my typing...

  5. I haven't read any of these, but I do have With Fire and Sword on my TBR. I hope the spin gives you something you enjoy!

    1. Possibly we could both end up with Willa Cather though different ones.

  7. Thanks for the reminder about the Classics Challenge. I just checked and I still have three books left.

I'd especially like to see how you like The Song of the Lark and The Waves.

    1. The Song of the Lark would be a reread, but it's been a very long time. And would be a very good spin!

  8. Yours is the first spin list this time on which I have read not a single book! I'll check out Back to Classics--thanks. Here is my spin list: https://hopewellslibraryoflife.wordpress.com/2021/10/14/classics-club-spin-28-list/

  11. I'd like to read some reviews on Ruskin's books. I've only read one of his kid's books and a couple of books about art where he was mentioned in passing.

    1. I've read some of his social criticism, but only a little of art criticism. There are so many!
